General
The new Puma turning centers from Daewoo are engineered to withstand forces associated with heavy and interrupted cuts on hard-to-machine alloys and heat-treated metals without sacrificing precision or finish.
We now add the new Puma 450 Series to compliment the 200, 250 and 350 Series. These sturdy performers are suitable for larger workpieces ranging up to to 62" in length by 27" diameter or bar stock to 5.9" diameter (5.3 thru the draw tube of the 450 B). Their massive 12 station tool turrets with 15.8" diameter curvic coupling index bi-directionally in a quick 1.3 seconds. Clamping force is 33,000#, yet indexing repeatability is still maintained to with +/-.0005 degrees. The Puma 450 can be equipped with either a 50 HP or 60 HP high torque spindle motor. Rigid Construction
Key to the Puma 450's performance is its heavily ribbed, sturdily constructed casting. The casting's 45 degree slant enhances rigidity, while allowing easy access to tools, chucks and workpieces
. It's torque-tube design resists the torsional stresses associated with heavy cuts, and provides a through-the-casting conduit for fresh air, helping to reduce thermal build-up. Its all-Meehanite construction dampens vibrations, while its super-heavy, one-piece construction evenly distributes heat and cutting forces.
Rigidly built widely spaced Z- axis box-ways are an integral part of the casting with a width between ways of 20.1" (X-Axis width is 16.1"). These allow heavier cuts and longer tool life. Cutting speeds and 400 to 480 ipm rapid traverses compare favorably with almost any other turning center in this large a class. But shear power really sets the Puma 450 apart. The Puma 450 Series has been found to glide through even the toughest materials without any hint of strain.
More power to ya...
Heavy shaft work is also handled without a problem. The tailstock sits on a wide way system platform with a width span of 15.4" for even greater rigidity and support. Tailstock Quill Thrust is 3500#. X-Axis ball screw diamter is 2" on the 450A and 2.5" on the 450B and all ball screws are double anchored and pretensioned and include torque limiter clutches to prevent damage in case of crashes. And maximum X axis feed thrust is 5900#, while Z axis feed thrust is a maximum of 9750 #!! Now we're talkin' torque!
CNC Control
Control is through either the Fanuc 18TC or the Mitsubishi M520L. Both feature 32-bit microprocessors, backlash compensation, constant surface speed control, and extensive self-diagnostics. On the Mitsubishi, a Smooth High gain function reduces axis acceleration and deceleration times. A feed forward function scans ahead to shorten cycle times.
Hard Turning
When turning's tough, nothing beats a Puma. Because at its heart is an ultra-rigid, ultra-rugged casting that provides a perfect platform for tough turning assighments.
- Its torque tube design resists bending and twisting, and provides through-the-casting airflow for cooler operating temperatures.
- Its Meehanite composition contributes superior dampening characteristics.
- Its integral box ways enable heavy cuts.
- Its super-heavy, one-piece construction evenly distributes heat and cutting forces.
- Its 45 degree slant bed maximizes rigidity, and eases access to tools, chucks and workpieces.
Test the Puma with heavy, interrupted cuts in space-age alloys, or hard-turning heat-treated metals. See if you don't cut deeper and finish faster. Or try it on non-ferrous metals for high precision and longer tool life. Puma... call today for the rest of the good news.
