The high-end precision machineDIXI270 from DMG MORI SEIKI has an enormousworking space of 106.3 × 106.3 × 63.0 in.(X × Y × Z) and achieves a 3-fold improvedvolumetric precision of Huge and heavyparts of up to 118.1 in. diameter, 63.0 in. height and26,455.5 lbs.max. weightcan be efficiently roughed (for instance with the powerMASTER 1000 motor spindle with up to 737.6 ft./lbs. torque and 103.3 hp. power rating) and can be finished with high dynamics (16.4 ft./s2) and fast feeds(2,362.2 ipm.)and a 3-fold higher volumetric precision. The high flexibility of theDIXI270 can primarily be ascribed to itsconstruction,the powerful spindles and the hand scraping. Only aftermore than 500 hours of manual scrapingthe precision-determining contact surfaces are so flat, straight and square, thatminimal form and position tolerances of the partbecome possible in the highly precise interaction of all linear and round axes. Intensive cooling measures of theDIXI270 contribute towards the highest long-t erm precision of the high precision machine: The headstock together with its housing, B-axis motor and motor spindle form part of these cooling measures, as well as the C-axis motor in the NC rotary table, the X-, Y- and Z-axis motor and the feed axes, the machine bed with stand as well as the linear guides in the X-, Y- and Z-direction. A so-called spindle growth sensor monitors and compensates temperature- and speed-related displacement of the spindle.
